Did God Really Say They Were Your Spouse
Did God Really Say They Were Your Spouse?
Let me ask you a very important question.
Does God lie?
Your immediate answer is probably, “Of course not.”
But then let me ask you another question.
Have you ever prayed about someone and became convinced that God said, “This is your husband” or “This is your wife”?
Perhaps you even visited several pastors or prophets, and they all told you the same thing.
“It is settled.”
“It is sealed in heaven.”
Yet today, the two of you no longer speak.
Maybe the relationship ended.
Maybe the person married someone else.
Or perhaps you eventually got married but the relationship became so unhealthy that it ended in separation.
So what happened?
Did God lie?
Did the prophets lie?
Let’s examine it from a relationship perspective.
The first thing you need to understand is this:
There is nothing such as one exclusive, God-ordained spouse where your entire destiny depends on marrying one specific individual.
Rather, there are people with whom you are spiritually compatible.
Not everyone will be spiritually compatible with you, but neither is there only one person on earth who is.
There may be several people with whom you can build a successful marriage.
So when a genuine man or woman of God tells you, “God says this is your husband” or “God says this is your wife,” what is often being perceived is spiritual compatibility.
Likewise, when you sincerely pray and become convinced that someone is your spouse, what you may actually be discerning is that the two of you are spiritually compatible.
However, spiritual compatibility is only one part of the equation.
You can be spiritually compatible and still have completely different values.
You can be spiritually compatible but emotionally immature.
You can be spiritually compatible but mentally incompatible.
You can be spiritually compatible and yet be in completely different seasons of life.
You can even be spiritually compatible while one person simply has no romantic interest in the other.
Spiritual compatibility simply means that the foundation exists for a healthy relationship.
It does not mean the relationship will automatically succeed.
A strong foundation does not build a house by itself.
If the structure is poorly built, even the strongest foundation cannot prevent its collapse.
Now someone may ask,
“But I clearly heard God say, ‘This is your husband’ or ‘This is your wife.'”
This is where many people misunderstand how spiritual communication works.
Spirits communicate through impressions, pictures, symbols, and understanding.
The human mind then interprets those impressions using the knowledge and symbolic framework already available to it.
This is one reason I constantly encourage prophets to study broadly.
The wider your understanding, the greater your ability to accurately interpret spiritual impressions.
For example, you may notice that prophets from different backgrounds describe similar revelations differently.
One may speak in very traditional symbolic language, while another communicates the same impression using completely different expressions.
The difference is often not the Spirit speaking differently, but the interpreter’s symbolic vocabulary.
In the same way, when you believe you heard, “This is your husband” or “This is your wife,” what may actually have happened is that your mind interpreted a genuine spiritual impression through a limited symbolic framework.
The impression may have been pointing to compatibility, possibility, or alignment, but your interpretation concluded, “This is the one.”
Understanding this difference helps us avoid blaming God for conclusions that came from our own interpretation rather than from what He actually communicated.
